Competitions Premier Events - June 2006 On 24/25 June, Ian and David attended the National Premier Event at Lilleshall. The calm Lilleshall conditions were, for once, conducive to good shooting, both archers putting in respectable performances, with David shooting a personal best in qualifying on the Sunday. In the head to heads on Saturday, Ian improved his 7th place from qualifying to finish second, losing to old friend and rival Tim Mundon in the final. He was particularly pleased to beat Matt Webb on a single arrow shoot off, though had had some practice at this in an earlier round. David fared slightly less well, meeting the top seed in the second round. Despite tying at the halfway stage, David was unable to make the most of this chance and lost. In the team round on Sunday, David was looking to emulate last years' victory. However, after a close semi-final and bronze medal shoot off where the entire crowd was cheering for the opposition, his team finished fourth. Full results can be found at GNAS site On 8/9 July, David attended the Premier Event at Ampthill, Bedfordshire. The windy conditions on both days, which saw scopes being blown over, chairs flying about and the judges tent collapse, were not conducive to good shooting. Qualifying scores were low, and the HTH scores were even lower. However, David finished in 17th - unlucky as his 1/16th round score would have won all but two of the matches at that stage. Even more unlucky as he lost on a single arrow shoot off! On the Sunday David finished 11th, losing to the eventual Silver medallist. Full results can be found at Clophill archery site Lincoln Double Fita Star - June 2006On Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th of June, a small contingent from London Archers (Adam, Rob, Shaun, Simon and Bartek) ventured to the midlands to sample the delights of Lincolnshire and take part in the Double FITA Star. The locals were impressed we travelled all that way to take part in their shoot. Bless them. Conditions on the Saturday could not have been better. High cloud, warm temperatures and no wind. Sunday was a different matter with a nice right to left breeze making its presence felt, especially on the score card. Day one saw personal bests set for Adam and Rob. Rob's was mainly due to the fact that it was his first FITA so he would set a personal best no matter what! Naturally spirits were high after day one and the evening saw the team sample the delights of Lincoln – beautiful cathedral, quaint side streets and a Wetherspoons (complete with hen party) dinner the highlights.
Day two provided a test with a nice right to left 'breeze' testing the form. Because of the breeze, Bartek taught us a most interesting Polish technique of dealing with it, which Simon and Shaun showing great promise in perfecting this technique. A few new faces on the Sunday, including one Mr Matt Webb who decided not to stick around at the Lilleshall shoot after one of London Archers' own – Mr McGibbon – knocked him out in the 4th round of the head-to-head (and who subsequently went on to come 2nd, missing out by a VERY small margin). All in all a good start to the FITA season for the lads. Competitions main page |
